MSI has been releasing some very noteworthy gaming laptops year after year but this time around, they probably have outdone themselves with the GT80 Titan series laptops. The laptops boast a few firsts for the company and scores at least one for the world. The GT80 Titan series laptops were finally launched here in Malaysia last Friday at the Malaysia IT Fair.
Click to view slideshow.Mechanical keyboards are a must have for many professional gamers and that’s exactly what MSI had in mind for its portable monsters. The GT80 series are claimed to be the world’s first laptops to incorporate this and MSI has engaged some of the best in the world for this undertaking; the world famous Cherry for its MX Brown switches (Tactile, non-clicky), and SteelSeries for both the backlit keyboard. The latter is also responsible for the incredible numerical keypad, that also pulls double duty as a touchpad (with a touch of a button). The mechanical switches, though expensive, are better than ordinary membrane keyboards as they offer a longer key travel distance, a 50x longer lifespan, and requires a lower activation force.

If you thought that having just one of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M GPU was more than enough for your gaming needs, MSI has thrown in a second one just to put you in your place. Using NVIDIA’s SLI technology, the Titans can get both the GPUs to push out performance like never before. The laptops are so powerful that they could run up to 3 external 4K UHD displays, and have support for up to 120 Hz frame rates.
To make the laptops more appealing to regular gaming-rig builders, MSI has notched another first with its user configurable/swappable innards. The area above the keyboard, that’s adorned with the dragon motif, is actually a removable cover. The cover houses the RAM, SSD, optical disc drive, and the hard disk. All of these can now be removed/configured by the users themselves.

Even with mechanical keyboard, the GT80 is still thinner than most other membrane keyboard equipped gaming laptops. In fact, MSI is claiming that this is the slimmest gaming notebook that users can get. The GT80 Titans have a lot more to offer than what’s been listed here.
