Alienware 13 is mobile, yet relatively powerful laptop with its unique design that is unmistakably Alienware. Though still a bit bulky when compared to other 13-inchers, the Alienware 13 is Alienware’s thinnest laptop ever, with its one-inch thick chassis, and aerospace-inspired carbon fiber composite surfaces, that is said to be 40% thinner than the previous-generation Alienware 14.

Alienware 13 starts at RM3,999, featuring an Intel Core i5 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M, the latter with a 2GB dedicated GDDR5 graphics memory, all packed into a machine that starts at around 4.5 pounds.

For the first time ever in Alienware’s laptop history, the Alienware 13 now has an optional 2560 x 1440 Quad HD touch display, great with Windows 8.1. The IPS LCD panel boasts to have great touch sensitivity, plus vibrant colors and wide viewing angles.

But the graphics in any gaming laptop is always no match for a desktop rig, until now. This is why Dell is introducing the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, which is essentially a plug-in “desktop gaming performance” booster. There is a dedicated PCI Express lanes for the Graphics Amplifier to connect to the Alienware 13 directly.

With the price tag of RM1,009, gamers could have a choice of AMD or Nvidia graphics cards when purchased together with the Alienware 13. The Graphics Amplifier can house a full-sized, dual-height graphics card with up to 375W of power.

In addition, Alienware Graphics Amplifier also has four USB 3.0 ports that are powered, for gamers to plug in their peripherals as well as to output directly to external displays.

K.T. Ong, General Manager of Consumer and Commercial Business, Dell Malaysia, said, “Until now, gamers have had to make some really hard decisions and compromises when they are looking for their next gaming system. Do you choose the raw power and performance of a desktop, or do you need the portability and battery life to game wherever you choose? The Alienware 13 combined with the Alienware Graphics Amplifier enables gamers to choose both, with an amazingly portable and powerful laptop for mobile gaming, and then simply plugging into a desktop-class gaming experience when you get home. This is gaming without compromises.”

Alienware Area-51

But that’s not all. Dell is also bringing back the legend that is its Alienware Area-51 flagship gaming desktop rig that looks like no other, with its hexagonal prism design, what Alienware calls a “Triad chassis”. First revealed at PAX East, the Area-51’s design is made to optimize thermal management, as well to improve ergonomics (the ease of swapping out a graphics card, for instance).

Area-51 starts at RM6,999, but has a whole host of configuration options for gamers to customize to their hearts’ content. All of these rigs come loaded with either a six- or eight-core Intel Haswell-E Core i7 K-series processors, that is factory-overclocked. The innards are liquid-cooled, the graphics are from either AMD or Nvidia, it has DDR4 memory, ‘Killer’ Gigabit Ethernet, Intel 802.11ac dual-band WiFi, and of course, the latest Windows 8.1 operating system.

The Triad chassis mentioned earlier is future proof, allowing gamers to easily open the side and swap out components for upgrades. Each piece is also laid out in a way that airflow is optimized for heat dissipation, that translates to a better performance.

For gamers who don’t settle with an entry-level gaming desktop, they can totally deck out the Area-51 to have these specifications:

  • Intel Core i7-5960X Unlocked 8-Core Processor Overclocked to 4.0GHz with Turbo Boost
  • Graphics Options include Triple AMD Radeon 290X, Triple NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 and even Dual NVIDIA GeForces Titan Z Graphics for Quad-GPU gaming
  • 32GB of Quad Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz
  • 512GB SATA 6Gb/s SSD main drive with a 4TB SATA 6Gb/s HDD Storage Drive
  • Killer Gigabit Ethernet NIC
  • Intel 802.11ac dual-band Wireless, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0
  • Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)

Alienware Command Center

Each Alienware PC comes with the Alienware Command Center, and the new machines has version 4.0 of this software that brings about a host of new customization features. For starters, AlienFX allows customizing lighting accents around the machine, which is also interactive and response to events and scenes within a game. There are also many performance monitors and tracking tools, including single-click widgets that display real-time information about the CPU, GPU, RAM, and even the motherboard.

On the Alienware 13, Command Center 4.0 comes with a tutorial and the ability to track the connected Graphics Amplifier’s status. For the Area-51 rig, the software comes with detailed overclocking controls that are robust and granular, but at the same time has presets for gamers to easily and automatically boost performance. Proper safeguards are also built-in to ensure the system can be pushed to the max, without damaging it.

Alienware and ROCCAT partnership

Dell also took the opportunity to announce its collaboration with ROCCAT Studios, a popular gaming peripheral maker. This partnership melds Alienware AlienFX’s customizable lighting system with some of ROCCAT’s gaming accessories like the Kone XTD, Isku FX, and the advanced Tyon gaming mouse, through its equally-customizable TalkFX lighting effect software.

Alienware enables these and other ROCCAT devices to have the same interactive and immersive lighting events for more than 85 games. Now, not only your Alienware’s in-game lighting events are immersive, the ROCCAT peripherals you use together will have the same level of ‘immersion’ in a game.

René Corte, ROCCAT’s Founder and CEO said, “We are extremely proud and honored to begin this rich, collaborative partnership with Alienware. Since 1996, Alienware has been a benchmark for quality, exciting design, and love for the PC gaming community. Like us, they value high standards in every product they bring to the public, and relentlessly strive to innovate. Our ROCCAT family is thrilled to take these first steps in what will without question, be a fruitful partnership, combining some of our very best peripherals with Alienware’s AlienFX software.”

All three — the Alienware 13, Alienware Graphics Amplifier, and Alienware Area-51 — are now available for purchase online, at Dell.com.my, however the retail availability will only happen in the coming weeks.
