To find a Windows Phone-only game is hard, but to find a beautiful looking game only available on Windows Phone, and that’s developed by local university undergraduates, are as rare as hen’s teeth.
The new side-scrolling game is called ‘UnFold’, and it’s developed in only ten weeks by five students from Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, for their final year project.
The university partners closely with Nokia Malaysia for this project, hence the Windows Phone 8 exclusivity. Nokia Malaysia has provided the university with RM10,000 worth of its Lumia 1520 smartphones, for the students to develop and test their apps with.
“The game was based on the history of Nokia. It has four different stages to unfold, hence the name of the game,” said multimedia design lecturer, John Hii, who supervised the students. “All stages of the game are designed beautifully with animation and visual effects. The stages are based on Nokia’s manufacturing line such as the paper, rubber, electronic, and the current and future of Nokia mobile.”
This, and many other apps developed by the university undergraduates, are supported by Nokia Malaysia as well as the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).
Unfortunately we do not have a Windows Phone 8 device around to test this game out, but it definitely does look beautiful. If you own a WP8 smartphone, this is a no-brainer. The app’s last updated date was February 22nd.
