Electronic Arts (EA) is feeling generous and is currently offering Origin gamers its 2011 Battlefield 3 title available to download for free until June 4th, 2014. Its usual cost is SG$24.90 (~RM63.81). This is part of EA’s ‘On the House’ program that seeks to gain more gamers on board its Origin platform. Origin is not dissimilar to Steam, where gamers could purchase and download games from.

Though games downloaded from Origin are all DRM-protected, there doesn’t seem to be any catch here, except that this is just the base title and additional DLCs are all not free. Just download Battlefield 3 before June 4th, and it is yours to keep and play even after that date. Once it is already tied to your Origin account, you can even install it on multiple computers, though you can only play on one PC at a time. Speaking of which, this is a Windows-only affair. The download size is around 19GB, so do get your bandwidth ready for this.

Along with BF3, EA is also giving away ‘Plants vs. Zombies: Game of the Year Edition’; this one is free until June 17th, 2014. Unlike BF3, PvZ is compatible with both Windows and OS X. This one is a much smaller download, at less than 200MB. After June 17th, this game is at SG$6.50 (~RM16.66).

EA’s ‘On the House’ campaign aims to gain more gamers signing up to its Origin platform, giving away gateway games periodically in hopes you’ll shell out for its expansion packs and DLCs, and purchase EA’s new games. This campaign was just launched back in March 2014 with the 2008 title, Dead Space.

This is a complete no-brainer. Even if you hate Origin, don’t miss out on these two games if you do not own them already. Download Battlefield 3 and Plants vs. Zombies from Origin here: https://www.origin.com/en-sg/store/free-games/on-the-house.
